De Bethune was started in 2002 by Davide Zanetta, a leading watchmaking expert and passionate enthusiast, and Denis Flageollet, a watchmaking designer and one of the leading figures of contemporary watchmaking. It is actually what might be called the “laboratory” of present-day watchmaking, since the firm offers total understanding of and respect for what has been accomplished in the past. In fact, everything in this watchmaking enterprise is centred on research and development, in order to create watches at the cutting-edge of the most up-to-date technologies and with a truly innovative aesthetic approach. These major technologies include the famous ultra-precise phases of the moon model (1 day to correct in 120 years), with the phase indicated by a platinum and tempered steel sphere and turning on its own axis. The new silicon spiral balance system is adjusted with the De Bethune flat terminal curve, and supplements the triple shock-absorber, a titanium bar that reduces all shock impacts. Another achievement is the new De Bethune automatic winding movement with a six-day operating reserve, driven by a titanium-platinum aggregate mounted on a micro-ceramic ball race secured by a central anti-shock system. Then, of course, there is also the titanium-platinum balance with its patented De Bethune flat terminal curve. Speed adjustment on the movement of the DB24 is another innovative function which enables the watch to be used under the best possible conditions whatever its wearer is doing. Yet another very important point to note is the firm’s pursuit of excellence has led to all movements, presentation cases, dials and hands being manufactured by De Bethune.
